The Big V

I am hesitant to write about this since it is going to be available to the world, but then I decided, who cares?
So here it is: On December 31, I got a vasectomy. I went in for a consultation a couple weeks before that and knew what to expect ... sort of.
I left work and got to the hospital around 11:30. Katrina came with the girls about 2 minutes before I went in for the surgery.
The surgery itself had some painful moments, the most painful being the anesthetic shot ... ouch! Once the pain killers set in, in was relatively painless, other than the couple of times that it felt like I got kicked in the b@!!s. I wasn't watching anything for fear that I might faint, so I don't know at what point it hurt, but those couple times were definitely very uncomfortable.
There was also the non-painful, but very off-putting points at which he cauterized the vas deferens (look it up ... or not). Katrina and I were thinking later that it would've been hilarious to do some S.O.S. smoke signals, although that may have distracted the doc a bit
And what a smell ... it was kind of like burning rubber mixed with something else. It wasn't pleasant to smell or see; kind of scary to know that my body parts are being burned.
The most interesting part of the procedure was the conversation. Even though I was, pardon the graphic picture, all out there, the conversation with the doc was surprisingly normal. We chatted about MAF and flying as well as our families.
POST-PROCEDURE
Normally, you're supposed to relax for 2 days after the procedure. On the evening of the procedure (New Years Eve), I was up and around a lot more than I should've been. I tried to sit as much as possible, but I'm sure I overdid it. The next day wasn't much better. We ran around town and did some errands. I wasn't in much pain, so I figured it was ok.
The next few days were quite unpleasant. I know now that my non-resting was a mistake. I don't want to get into too much detail, but "it" was very sore and ached really bad. Although I went back to work yesterday, today is the first day that I'm feeling a little bit back to normal. I'm hopeful that the pain will disappear very soon, but I'm told it can take a few more weeks.
WHY'D I DO IT???
A couple people have been shocked that I took this huge step at my young age. I have 2 beautiful daughters who demand a lot of attention and love. In my opinion, that's 1 girl per parent. That seems a pretty good fit to me. Also, Katrina and I have always wanted to adopt and/or do foster care. We don't see this as an end to our family's growth, just an end to our biological family growth. We are very excited for who the Lord has for us to join our family in the future.
So that's it. Until next time.
