Proverbs 18:22
"He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD."
I've been thinking and meditating on this verse for the past few days. God is continually bringing it to my mind.
I looked at the rest of Proverbs 18 just to see what it's about and all it is is mostly a list of our attitudes and how they are seen by God. For example, it says, "A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions" and "He who answers before listening—that is his folly and his shame." It's full of great stuff, actually. Take a look at the whole thing here.
Then, amidst the list of mostly bad traits that we humans possess is this one talking about a man who finds a wife finds what is good. Cool!
I've been away from Katrina now for 13 days. 7 days ago, our marriage changed drastically. And since then, I have been on my knees (literally and figuratively). God has changed who I am. He is making me who intends for me to be. And it's incredible.
I've been fasting from food and TV for these 7 days as well. Removing those 2 parts of my life has freed up a lot of time for prayer, Bible reading, and, well, house work
. The house work is great to get done, but the prayer and Bible reading have been absolutely life-changing. God is showing me that I am like clay in His hands and he is molding me into His image. And the greatest part, I'm embracing it. Have at me, God!
Now back to the verse. Being away from Katrina—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—has made me realize how blessed I am to have a wife that is my perfect compliment. God has used Katrina so many times in my life to point out areas that need a little (or a lot of) remolding. Unfortunately, I am thick-headed and stubborn, and many times this has come at a great cost to our relationship. But I am assured through these trials and circumstances that "He who finds a wife finds what is good." I thank God for Katrina. My life would be incomplete without her.
