Is anyone there?

I'm thinking about shutting this blog down. Is anyone still reading it anyway? If so, what kinds of content do you expect? Most of what is interesting about my life can be found on my Facebook page or my Loko Web Design blog.

Love INC Graduation!

Hi all,
I haven't posted since August, so let me get you caught up a bit.
I have a simple explanation of things that happened this past summer on a previous post, so I won't go into that. From my last post, you can see that I listed some cool things that have happened since we've been in the Love INC New Hope Relational Program. Since August, here are some of the big things that have happened:
- Sept 18-20, Katrina's parents drove through on their way to Oregon. Katrina's dad (Kenny) was in a lot of pain (stomach), but decided to continue on to deliver the load.
- Sept 22, I got paid $500 for a side web job that I did. I mention this because this money came just in time (God's time) for the upcoming trip to Oregon. Thanks God!
- Sept 23, Kenny felt worse and was vomiting. They went to the Salem Hospital ER.
- Sept 24, Kenny underwent multiple tests to find out what was wrong.
Sept 25, Kenny was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. It had metastasized into the liver.- Sept 25 (pic), we drove to Salem Hospital, arriving late evening.
- Sept 26, Kenny was released from the hospital in order to travel home to Southern California for further treatment.
Sept 27-28 (pic), we headed back to Idaho (with a short stop on the Oregon coast) and Kenny and Cindy headed back home to CA with Kenny's brother, sister-in-law, and nephew.- Oct 6, Katrina and I celebrated 8 years of marriage. I will probably write a blog pretty soon on marriage because, for being married only 8 years, we've been through a lot and its worth sharing about what God has done and is doing.
- Oct 12 & 22, received anonymous cash gifts at work. I believe that God nudges the hearts of people to give when there's a need and we have been blessed to be the recipients of those gifts. As we have been blessed, we hope to also bless.
- Oct 22, met with Rod, our Love INC counselor to discuss our next steps, since we planned to go to California for a while. At this point, I felt like the Lord reminded me of Isaiah 40:31, "but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." So we waited a bit longer.
- Oct 29, Celebration night at Love INC. We met with our counselor and this time he encouraged us to sit down and make a plan for a possible 8-week stay in CA. Also, since this is the 5th Thursday of the month, it is testimonial night. We were so blessed to hear how God is working in the lives of His children who obey His command to be good stewards of His money.
- Nov 1-2, Katrina and I worked out a financial plan for our trip to CA and sent it to Rod.
- Nov 3, our friend Janet paid for Katrina's and Grace's tickets to CA (Faith is still free). The flight is scheduled for the 11th. Thank you sooo much Janet!
And now to today. We met with Rod and he encouraged us and commended us on the plan we made. He also, unbeknown to us, discussed with Love INC the possibility of us graduating from Love INC ... tonight! We were a bit shocked, but it really was the right thing to do given our situation. We were informed that we met all the requirements for graduation, so we filled out our necessary closure forms. Then we were given our checkbook and debit cards back (it's a little nerve-racking to have them back after 6 months!).
I really want to share a lot more about Love INC and what we have learned while in the program, so I think I'll do that on my next post. Until then, please keep Kenny and the family in your prayers, along with us as we work out the details of being away from home for a while.

Blessings

I've been meaning to do this blog for a while, but haven't had much time to sit and think through everything. We started our Love INC financial management thing back in March or early April. Since then, God has done some incredible things ... miracles in my book. I just wanted to post a list of those things so that everyone could see and share in our blessings.
| Date | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| April | Wal-Mart Gift Card | Tom Scott Honda sent a mailer that said I could win 1 of 4 prizes: a car, $5,000 cash, something else I don't remember, or a $5 Wal-Mart Gift Card. I said, "well, if I'm guaranteed to win, why not?" So I went down and sure enough, I won the gift card. The best part of this story is, we were desperately in need of gas for the next 3 days or so and the $5 could be used at the Wal-Mart pumps. Cool! |
| June | Gifts | Mom & Dad O. came to visit in June and we were able to save lots of money on groceries, gas, and home remodeling supplies. |
| June | Airplane Tickets | Mom & Dad L. purchased tickets for Katrina and the girls to visit California and go to Mollie's graduation. |
| June | Airplane Tickets | Mom & Dad O. paid for tickets for us to go to NY. Katrina, Grace, and Faith flew out of Ontario, CA and I flew out of Boise. |
| July | Date Night | While in NY, Mommom (my grandma) paid for Katrina and I to go to Melody Lodge, a really nice restaurant in Speculator. |
| July | Gift Card | On my way to NY, I took one of those deals where I got a later flight and received a free airplane ticket to use within the next year. When Joel and Natalie came to NY we found out they were trying to get to CA for a wedding. We thought it would be cool to give them the free ticket, since Mom and Dad O. bought our tickets in the first place we asked them and they agreed. J & N sent us a great gift card for Chili's as a thank you for the ticket. |
| July | Gift Card | The son of a lady I work with was having some computer problems and asked me to try to fix them. I was able to and he gave us a gift card to Olive Garden. |
| July | Date Night | I threw out a request to my Facebook friends for $30 to take Katrina out on a date. Amazingly, a friend of ours decided to send a check. What a blessing and Katrina and I were able to go to the theater and see Les Miserables. |
| July | Cash | On the same day as Les Miserables, Katrina cut a friend's hair and she blessed us with some cash to go to dinner first. We had delicious Chinese food before the show. |
| July | Gift Cards | Katrina cut and highlighted another friend's hair and she gave us 2 gift cards! One for Red Robin and one for Starbucks. |
| August | Cash | One Friday, I received an envelope at work with my name on it. In it, $50 cash! And no indication of who it was from. |
| August | Swim Lessons | Mom and Dad L. called one day and decided that they wanted to pay for swim lessons for the girls. So we did 2 weeks of lessons at a park next to MAF. It was great and something that I was really glad we could do for the girls. |
| August | Gift Cards | Sports Authority just opened a new store in Nampa. On the opening weekend they were doing a lot of in-store marketing which included giving away and winning gift cards. We signed up to win $100, which they gave away in a drawing each hour. We then went to the hulahooping contest and, after 17 minutes, 45 seconds, I won. That was good for a $10 gift card. Shortly after that contest, the hour drawing happened and Katrina won the $100 card! |
I did a quick calculation and, although I'm not quite sure the exact amounts of certain things, these items add up to almost $2,500! This doesn't even include some other things, like when Katrina has gone out with her friends and they paid for her food or fun, when a new friend of ours took us out to Olive Garden, and the things here and there that were bought for us by family and friends.
God is so good and we are definitely humbled. We see even more how it is important for us to be good stewards of the resources God gives to us and I hope that we can bless others as much as we've been blessed.
Thanks so much to all!
